The Joys of Polyvore

While waiting for something to render, compress, collate or print - or anything that keeps you waiting long enough to start sighing, don't bite your fingernails- go and play on Polyvore. How to explain.. hmmm collagey fun and fashion eyecandy collide. Or just make a pretty picture and gaze on other pretty pictures. I don't know why this is fun but it is!

Hope everybody has a great weekend! :)

An Infinite World

Go outside and look around. Go inside to a smaller world of homes, then dig inside an even smaller world of objects. If you take an object apart to see its pieces, that is an even smaller world. We can do this every day. Have you ever wished you could just fly around the planet, pick a point and dive in to see it even closer like that? This is as close as you can get without magic. Every person will find something different, but what everyone will find is how much beauty is contained on our blue marble floating in space.

"Infinite Photograph—As Seen on Earth
What makes up our world? Dive into this photo-mosaic portrait of the Earth to see it through the eyes of users like you. It's made up of hundreds of photos of the natural world, each submitted by users to My Shot. Move the yellow square over an area you would like to explore, click, and go. Double-click on an image to see more information about it. Keep clicking—and diving deeper into the Infinite Photograph—to get a truly boundless picture of Earth."

One Laptop Per Child

What a great worthwhile project. Consider adding this to your Holiday Gift lists!

Last November and December, the One Laptop Per Child project had a program called "Give One Get One," whereby you would pay for two laptops, get one yourself and send one to a child in the developing world. This holiday season, they're doing it again, only this time in conjunction with Amazon.com. They haven't announced the price yet, but last year the cost was $399 plus shipping. This is great news, both because Amazon has resources to process and ship orders that the OLPC initiative does not have.

So if you have kids, or know someone with kids, who'd love to have their own cool little laptop that can take a bit of a beating, put this on your shopping list. It's not often you can buy a present that the recipient will love that at the same time makes you feel great for giving it. Don't miss out on this one.

'Oldest' blogger dies, aged 108

An Australian woman - reputed to be the world's oldest internet blogger - has died at the age of 108, officials say.
Olive Riley had posted more than 70 entries about her life since she began her blog in February 2007.
She shared her thoughts on modern life and experiences of living through the entire 20th Century, including two world wars and the Great Depression.
In her final entry on 26 June, she described singing a happy song at her care home with nurses and a visitor.

'Keeping mind fresh'

Olive Riley died in the nursing home in New South Wales on Saturday.

"Our dear friend Olive Riley passed away peacefully... She will be mourned by thousands of internet friends and hundreds of descendants and other relatives," a note on her website - http://worldsoldestblogger.blogspot.com - said.
In her final post from the town of Woy Woy, she wrote: "I can't believe I've been here in this nursing home for more than a week.

"How the days have flown, even though I've been in bed most the time. I still feel weak, and can't shake off that bad cough.

"I've never been treated so well in all my life. The nurses can't do enough for me," she wrote.

Olive Riley was born in the town of Broken Hill on 20 October 1899.
During her long life, she took various jobs, including working as an egg-sorter and barmaid. She also raised three children.
Documentary maker Mike Rubbo said the idea for blogging came to Olive Riley from a friend who had taken it up.

"He suggested that Ollie could blog so we put it to her and explained what a blog was and then I undertook to do all the sort of leg work," Mr Rubbo was quoted as saying by Australia's ABC News.

"It was great fun and it was great too to probe her memory more deeply and you get ever more stories about her past, many of which of course were set in Broken Hill," he said.
Olive Riley's great-grandson said blogging had brought her into contact with people from around the world and had kept her mind fresh. Read the article here!

Hello! So where have you been?

Thanks to wonderful Rick a new one is on it's way and I will be back up and running as soon as it gets here from the magical land of ebay.. Stringing two pieces of cardboard together and drawing keyboard squares on one and saying "If you can dream it you can be it!" won't work in this case.. not that I tried.. (maybe I needed to say "A'la Peanut Butter Sandwiches!" afterward..?) I am able to use my Flintstones era behemoth for simple stuff and sneak onto this one when no one is looking :) I can't really spend the quality time needed to do whatever it is I do, well, so I am just going to pretend to be patient and wait for the buzzer to announce the arrival of my new computer BFF. Shouldn't be that long.

In the meantime my new lil' company is online, that was also taking up time and still has a couple of things left to do but it is there up and running I will do a more offical sounding email about it soon. It's already had some wonderful things happen so it's been great I wish I could have a website warming party and invite you.

Ember Heart

So you have a Happy Monkey Monday!! I will be back soon shinier than ever :)

Get a Life! "Bidding begins on 'entire life'"

What is more interesting to me is where is he going to go when he walks out the door with just his clothes on his back his wallet and a passport! He says he is going to get on the first plane with a free seat and just take off! I hope he finds a great adventure and I hope the person that takes over his lifestyle at least lets him stay over when he comes back to visit! :)

Check out his auction here, and his website here and see all the activity that lead up to this moment now about to come to completion in about 6 days!

Bidding begins on 'entire life'
Mr Usher plans to make a fresh start

An ex-pat who decided to make a clean break after splitting with his wife has so far attracted 70 bids for his "entire life".
Ian Usher, from Darlington, who emigrated to Australia six years ago, is selling his house, friends and job on internet auction site eBay.

The 44-year-old said he hoped to earn about £185,000 for his Perth lifestyle.
About five hours after bidding opened on Sunday, the highest offer was just over £314,000.
Up for auction is his three-bedroom home in the western Australian city and everything inside it, including his car, motorcycle, jet ski and parachuting gear.
He is also selling an introduction to his friends and a trial run at his job.
Mr Usher said: "Everything that I have - the furniture in the house - all has memories attached to it. It's time to shed the old, and in with the new.

"On the day it's all sold and settled, I intend to walk out of my front door with my wallet in one pocket and my passport in the other, nothing else at all.

"My current thoughts are to then head to the airport and ask at the flight desk where the next flight with an available seat goes to, and to get on that and see where life takes me from there."

'Complete lifestyle'

Joy Jones, who co-owns the rug store in Perth where Mr Usher worked as a shop assistant, said she supported the auction idea.
Her company is offering the successful bidder a two-week trial, which could be extended for three months and then become permanent.
She said: "When Ian came up with this idea, because we had seen him go through a break-up of marriage and pain and bits and pieces, I thought it was really exciting.

"We thought, why not give it a go?"

Mr Usher said his friends in Perth were willing to be introduced to the highest bidder, allowing him to advertise his auction as offering a complete lifestyle.
Bidding closes on 29 June. Read the whole article here

Featherdust Boy Grows Up

A dusty boy..

"Featherdust Boy grows a beard
now he is Featherdust Man"

(He was made of pale unmarked dust on a piece of glass. The marks came from I don't know where. Then one day I realized he was aging, a fragment of spinning feather changed him, he was growing up.)
