LONDON - Elton John, Paul McCartney and Sony boss Howard Stringer have all got one. Now it's the turn of a three-foot high King Penguin.
Six-year-old Nils Olav was granted a knighthood and the title of "Sir" on Friday, on behalf of Norway's King Harald V. Loudon. The title was bestowed by a British major general. Nils took the ceremony, which included having a sword dubbed on each side of his head, and listening to a marching band in front of a crowd of 500-odd spectators, "in his stride," a spokeswoman for Edinburgh Zoo, where he is based, told Forbes.com. "He really enjoyed it. He knows he is special."
Sir Nils Olav, as he will now be known officially, is the third penguin named Nils Olav to be an honorary member and mascot of the Norwegian King's Guard. (Each was replaced when his predecessor died.) The first was adopted by a guard in 1972 and over the years Nils Olav had been promoted to the rank of "Colonel in Chief."
