Nesting boxes will help keep track of dormice
by Steve Bagnall, Daily Post
MORE than 400 dormouse nesting boxes have been put up around North Wales as part of a project to help protect the animals across the region. Children from Hawarden High School made the latest batch of dormouse boxes as part of their environmental studies course, and put them up at the Wildlife Trust Reserve in Afonwen.

The work is part of the North Wales Wildlife Trust’s Dormouse Project, which aims to find new dormouse populations across North Wales and protect existing ones. Rhian Hughes, Dormouse Project Officer at NWWT said more over the last few months 400 new boxes have been put up over North Wales. Surveys will continue throughout the summer to find new dormouse sites across the region.

Rhian said: “We are very excited about the start of the survey season, especially after being so busy making and putting up all the boxes, we are hoping to find some new sites where dormice haven’t been known to be before.” Read the article here
