Congratulations to Jill Anderson

Jill has been chosen by Oscar nominated Director, Debra Granik, to create her Oscar gown. This is MUCH deserved recognition and attention for her :)

Photo, NY Daily News
Click HERE for the news story on NY Daily News :)

Winter's Bone is up for more than just Best Director, it is also nominated for:
Best Picture, Jennifer Lawrence; Best Actress, John Hawkes; Best Supporting Actor, and Debra Granik and Anne Rosellini; for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Jill told me I was one of her first customers when she first opened and over the years I have owned many lovely things she created. Her designs were made for all women not just Models (nothing wrong with looking like a Model it's just that not everybody does and we like fashion too :) ) She once told us that our rescue dog Pippin showed her how much she loved dogs and then she went and adopted her own rescue pup :)

She named a Fashion after Pippin too!

Christmas Tree Lighting in Tompkins Square Park NYC

The TREE!, originally uploaded by happylolday.

This little EV Tree is the one our cat Cassa "grew up" with, he would play by it when it was a wee sapling and he a beeg baby, now they are certainly much bigger. :)
The whole set of photos Rick took located here on Flickr :)

One Day On Earth 10/10/10 Lower East Side NYC

One Day On Earth, 10/10/10 Lower East Side from cmerry on Vimeo.

This is my video I made for the One Day On Earth event, 10/10/10, on the Lower East Side, the part I live in so its really a day in my corner of Earth. I look forward to seeing all the videos as they come in since it was posted people were filming in every country on our planet yesterday. If they didn't have cameras they were sent to them and will be collected over the next 30 days. I know the lives of people are so different and I hope to see the good the bad, happy and sad- the real lives we live here on our blue marble. It will increase our understanding of our fellow humans, be aware of the happy stories and the stories that need help to find happiness. All of us live here, we need to know what the lives of others are like, this planet we share isn't really that big.
Hope you had a great 10/10/10 :)

Bike Polo in NYC

Their polo ponies were bikes, the biggest danger to onlookers was the ball rolling out of the park and a dog running off with it. I loved it, I wish I could have watched the whole game :) This was Sunday afternoon Oct/2/10 at Sara D Roosevelt Park at Broome and Chrystie.
Hey I just found their NYC Bike Polowebsite, cool!

And I found a NYTimes video on them too :)

SOHO and 'round about yesterday..

It was a nice day to run errands :)
See the whole flickr bunch here

Beautiful Bottle Boats and the Flotsam Flotilla

Floating in the Pacific Ocean there is an island twice the size of Texas (potentially larger!), made of plastic and garbage. What can be done with this garbage, and the garbage you are about to throw away, it's garbage right? Wrong, it's a resource that can be used to do many things. Like what? Put a plastic bottle in a tub filled with water and what does it do? That's right it FLOATS. Look at what some people have done with not only plastic but that other environmental swear word, styrofoam (it takes 500 years for one cup to dissolve!).

"'El Padrino', the brainchild of recycling enthusiast Jesus Roman of Guaynabo, is a functional kayak made of 2 liter Pepsi bottles lashed to a PVC frame."
Created as part of an event to draw attention to the issues of the coast around San Juan Island, PR. Via Surfrider Foundation

"Balachandra Kurup, who used to work in a Gulf country, thought of a plan not only to reduce pressure on the environment from the PET bottles but also to put them to productive use. He used discarded bottles to fabricate a small rowing boat, in which he rows in the Paravur Lake."
He will build them for people with a three year guarantee and had ferried his own family across Paravur Lake. He states, "PET spares for the boat will always be in stock." via The Hindu

"A floating raft home, made of salvaged lumber and floating on chunks of styrofoam. In the early 1990's The Floating Neutrinos set off across the Atlantic using the only the wind and current to push their boat all the way to the coast of Ireland and then on to France."
via The Floating Neutrinos, log on for their latest adventures and news.

And the greatest of these is The Plastiki (please click and give a pledge!), at this moment still on the seas nearing their destination of Sydney, Australia. EDIT, PLASTIKI HAS ARRIVED!!! Read all about it here!

It is a catamaran made of plastic bottles.

(All the Flickr photos from Plastiki here!)

It just crossed the Pacific Ocean from San Francisco, USA. What more proof does anyone need to say, yes stop making more garbage and think of the amazing things it can do. You can also recycle and reduce your use of single-use plastics and say, let's make this a resource that will no longer be called trash but a thing of a different kind of beauty.

David de Rothschild creator of the Plastiki Expedition

EDIT, Thank you Plastiki! :)
