Tortoise on Wheels Finds Love at Israeli Zoo

There is a little dog in my neighborhood on a mini wheelchair device and that dog books! I have seen a dog running the road around Prospect Park with wheels. I always admire the love people have to care about the quality of lives of animals. We are the custodians of Earth and these are our little friends :)

Tortoise on wheels finds love at Israeli zoo
JERUSALEM (AFP) — Arava the tortoise may never walk again, but a makeshift wheelchair has given the 10-year-old reptile wings by helping her to find a mate at an Israeli zoo, her keepers said on Tuesday.

"Arava came to us a few months ago," Shmulik Yedvad, a spokesman for the Jerusalem Biblical Zoo, told reporters. "She was paralysed in her hind legs, and we had to equip her with a metallic cart with two wheels in order for her to be able to move."

He said the 25-kilo (55 pound) African spurred tortoise has, since arriving at the zoo, rolled into the heart of a male who was apparently shell-shocked by her new wheels.

A Big Deal the Size of a Little Box Turtle :)

The turtle is smaller than a matchbox

Maybe the new baby could live in a house like this!

Or drive a car like this! :) Okay getting carried away..

Welcome to the big wide world little turtle!

Bristol Zoo has been celebrating the birth of an endangered turtle.

The Chinese box turtle, also known as a yellow-margined box turtle, weighed 15g (0.53oz) and measured 4cm (1.6in) long, when it hatched.
The turtle, which is smaller than a matchbox, will live in the reptile house with 14 adult box turtles.
Tim Skelton, Bristol Zoo Gardens’ spokesman, said the new arrival was doing well, “eating plenty and growing stronger every day”.
Mr Skelton said the hatch would develop an “understanding of breeding and incubation” of the endangered turtles.
Nine species of box turtle are listed by the International Union for Endangered Species (IUCN), with Chinese box turtles listed on the IUCN red list, which means its population levels have been described as “critical”.
The Chinese box turtles are hunted for their meat, used in medicine or kept as pets.
An adult box turtle can live up to 50 years of age, weigh 800g (28.2oz) and measure 16cm (6.5in) long.

Myrtle the Turtle is Okay!

Myrtle the Turtle is a local turtle in Williamsburg Brooklyn where a lot of construction is going on and was recently attacked by spraypainting lunatics. Why are some people just so disgusting?

Well thankfully Myrtle, (found to be a guy turtle by the ASPCA!) is doing well! Thanks to Rick we have an update and it's looking good for the little guy although he may stay that color..

From Gowanus Lounge:
We have news to update about Myrtle the Turtle, the poor Williamsburg backyard turtle that was the victim of a spraypaint attack whose story we broke last Monday. Myrtle’s sad tale was subsequently picked up around the country. We can now report that (a). Myrtle is a he, contrary to early reports (who knew?) and that (b). he’s doing a lot better. Per an email: “Myrtle is doing much better. He (yes, he’s a he) is the belle of the ASPCA animal hospital. He’s got a newly constructed hutch to hang out in and plenty of wood chips to burrow into. The paint is acrylic, so they’re having some success taking it off. He was a little dehydrated so they put in a line, but overall he’s doing great.” We’re glad to share some happy news about Myrtle.

Alex in Wonderland 3

Part One, Part Two..

She hadn't seen the green blobby things from above. They looked cozy and soft...

...but were neither as she crashed into one.

They were also much larger in person. The biggest one had a lovely visitor centre with food court and conference rooms available to groups.. but that's not important..

Alex took a moment to freshen up and dislodge twigs and leafy things.

"What are you looking at?" the lizard said, "never seen a green spotted lizard before? It's rude to stare."
Alex had to look around for a bit before she noticed him perched on a sink.
"I had not noticed you until you called attention to yourself so how can I have been rude?"
"You are staring now,"
he said in a smug way, "and you are also late!"
"For what?"
"The party! You better get moving! It's that way!"
He flicked his tiny tail in a general direction.
This might be important, she thought, so I better run! She stumbled forward and somehow arrived...

"Who could possibly have fun in a room like this?"

"Well lots of people!" a smiling greenman said.
"Well I just crawled out of a green leafy thing moments ago, so I am not in the mood for a party in another. I think I am on my way to somewhere.. and keep getting side tracked. Is there a hole nearby?"

He pointed down. "How about that one?"
"It's far too small.."
"Why not stay for some tea? We serve a lovely Green Tea."

Alex looked into the teapot
"There are 'things' in the tea."
"All green tea has green turtles in it!"
"Not where I come from.."
"Where do you come from?"
"Question is where am I going?"

The smiling greenman pointed in another direction.
"Now that is a good hole, but there is always a line.."
"Curiouser and Curiouser!" Alex was on her way again.. maybe it would be the last stop to somewhere, maybe another stop on the way to everywhere..

and it was worth the wait.
