Crutches can’t stop brave Josh from saving the day
A kitchen fire and crutches were not enough to stop Josh Mason from saving his home and animals.
The brave 11-year-old Wirrabara resident was at home on August 8 playing on his computer while his mum Kym was in town doing some quick shopping when the fire broke out.
After hearing a noise in the kitchen and the dogs barking, Josh wondered what was happening.
A few months ago Josh had a motorbike accident which left him using crutches but that did not stop him.
The safety switch in the house tripped so Josh got on his crutches to investigate.
Josh said the kitchen was filled with smoke and he saw a plastic shopping bag on the stove that had a big hole in it.
He grabbed a fire blanket and put it over the stove to try and smother the flames.
He was able to stay very calm and started to rounding up all the animals in the house, including a sick rabbit, and took them to safety on the front lawn.
