Update! Hero Surfer Dog Rescue Reunion!

I knew there would be an update so I went looking and so glad they all got together! Wonderful people are in the world, to help someone with no reason other than you saw an innocent dog in danger and helped him, makes the world seem brighter.

Dog rescued by surfers meets the heroes

Grand Haven, Mich. - The owner of the dog that was rescued from Lake Michigan by a surfer got to meet the man who saved his pet.

Jack Badgero says he is extremely grateful to the man who saved his best friend. Badgero's dog named “Shell-B” had to be rescued after she fell off the Grand Haven pier. Fortunately, Matt Smolenski was surfing with his friend nearby when it happened.

It all started Tuesday afternoon. Badgero says Shell-B loves the water. “She loves to go after the waves when they break over the wall...she'll sit there and snap at em", says Badgero.

That day, the waves were big. Badgero, who lost his leg in the Vietnam War and now has an artificial leg, says he tried to grab her. "My last reaction was I was going to kick that (leg) off, throw it on top of the pier and in the water I would go."

Badgero didn't have to. Smolenski heard him yelling for help. He says, "First thing I heard was, when you were screaming and I saw the dog. I was like, wow. I got to get over there."

Smolenski and his friend put Shell-B on a surf board. They could tell she was tired. Smolenski says, "When I got to her, she was starting to go down."

The surfers made it back to shore, with the dog in tow and she was reunited with her owner. Smolenski says he recognized both Shell-B and Badgero. They are out at the pier nearly every day. Smolenski says he knows how important Shell-B is to his owner.

"You know she's the pride and joy of my life”, says Badgero. “I know, that's why I wasn't coming in without her”, says Smolenski.

Badgero says he has a lot to be thankful for. He still has his best friend.

Shell-B is a 10 year old beagle/rottweiler mix. From now on, Badgero says he will be more careful with her when the waves are high on Lake Michigan.

When Cats "TLLT"

I had a cat typing incident.. not once but twice and decided to look up what pix would show up in Flickr under that cat-text and decided to let my kitty "pick" three more and see if a "TLLT" could be made from them. Kinda-sorta yeah! I looked at the cat-chosen set and there were a few ways it could go but I chose the happy ending-in-bliss sequence :) So here is the first known Cat TLLT in all the world :)

It's dove at first sight, Monkey Birdy Love

So wonderful. I know some people think the pigeon is probably like "what-ev" but I have four and they show a lot of emotion and one of my past baby girly pigeons showed a lot of love.
I think this pij wouldn't let this monkey near her if she wasn't liking being his friend.


It's a tale straight out of Disney – an abandoned baby monkey, close to death, is revived by the love of a bird.

The 12-week-old macaque was rescued on Neilingding Island, in Goangdong Province, China, after being abandoned by his mother.

Taken to an animal hospital, he was weaned back to physical health but still showed little appetite for life.

It was not until a fellow patient, a white pigeon, took him under her wing and showed him love and affection that he perked up.

Now the two are inseparable, say staff.

They are not the first odd couple. In March, we told how a tiger cub in China was being raised by a sow along with her piglets because his mother didn't know how to feed him.

And in 2005 Mi-Lu the baby deer became best friends with lurcher Geoffrey at the Knowsley Animal Park, in Merseyside, after being rejected by her mother.

A surfer rode a wave on his stomach to rescue a struggling dog that had been swept off a pier and into Lake Michigan by a wave.

Surfer Matt Smolenski, right, and Joe Riopelle help save a dog who was swept off a pier into Lake Michigan in Grand Haven, Mich., on Tuesday. "He (Smolenski) put the dog up on his surfboard, and the dog rode the surfboard in to shore," said one bystander who witnessed the rescue.
Matt Smolenski, 25, said he grabbed the pooch's collar just as the exhausted, black-and-brown mixed breed stopped dog-paddling on Tuesday.

"He put the dog up on his surfboard, and the dog rode the surfboard in to shore," said Royce Rodgers, an off-duty Muskegon Heights police officer who witnessed the rescue. As the dog crouched on the board, Smolenski held on from the water, fighting large waves and a strong current all the way to shore.

"I've watched the dog about a million times," said Smolenski, of Grand Haven. "He barks at the waves and then jumps back when they wash up on the pier."

Rodgers, who had started walking his own dog on the pier but turned back around after seeing the size of the waves, said the other dog wasn't on a leash when the wave swept it over the side. The same wave knocked the animal's owner off his feet, Rodgers said.

"The dog was trying to swim, but the waves were very large. It was struggling," Rodgers said. "The owner was screaming for the dog."

Rodgers said the owner thanked Smolenski and gave him a high five. He then "left so fast, I couldn't get his name," he said.
