Pet Detective When kitty goes missing, who you gonna call? . . .
By CHRIS LAMBIE Staff Reporter

THIS IS ONE detective story where cheese is definitely encouraged.
That’s how Vicky Vaughan, a private pet detective based in Dartmouth, rewards her beagle, Dakota, when he helps solve cases of missing cats.
She’s trained Dakota to find felines by imprinting them on his memory with a treat every time he sniffs one out.

"A piece of cheese works very well with him," Ms. Vaughan said. "He’s a brilliant dog."

Dakota will usually wag his tail and lead his mistress to where cats are hiding, she said.
"Then we can just fish the cat out," she said. "I’ve never met the cat that says, ‘Oh great, here’s the search dog, I’m finally saved.’ What they’ll do is sometimes they’ll slip away and I don’t want to get into a chase situation. So I’ll set up a humane trap where that scent was, so when we leave the area, the cat typically will come back to where he or she was comfortable."

Gail Sheppard employed her services to find Saba after the marmalade cat had been missing for about 48 hours.
"Our neighbours were thinking we were crazy because we had a woman with a big vest and jacket on and a dog on a leash looking and sniffing all around," said Ms. Sheppard, who lives in Timberlea.
"So we got a lot of attention."
Ms. Vaughan and Dakota found Saba, who normally stayed indoors, under a porch a few doors down.

"I have an 80 per cent success rate. So 20 per cent of them I just cannot find. There’s times when I felt so close, yet so far. That can be really hard on you."
Veterinarians and animal shelters are starting to recommend her services.
"People come in just mesmerized," she said. "Sometimes, within just a few minutes, we can locate the cat and they just think we’re amazing."

Pebblebet

I just love the way some people think. She has collected pebbles with an eye for letters and numbers and their freeform organic shapes show us how beautiful our alphabet and numeral shapes can be.

Famous Movie Bugs :)

WALL-E's pet roach, his only companion on a wasted Earth, lives in a Twinkie, loves to give tickles, survives innumerable squishings and waits patiently for WALL-E to return from outer space. (MCT)

Famous bugs: Some of the most charming characters in movies and books are insects
By Lisa Davis, McClatchy Newspapers
OK, OK, the robots are super-cool, but there is an overlooked star of the movie ``WALL-E,'' a character who is loyal, brave and charming.

It's the cockroach.
WALL-E's pet roach, his only companion on a wasted Earth, lives in a Twinkie, loves to give tickles, survives innumerable squishings and waits patiently for WALL-E to return from outer space. Who knew a cockroach could be so cute?

It put us in mind of some other lovable bugs in pop culture. If you don't think insects can be lovable, well, grasshopper, you have much to learn.
Have some fun exploring these fictional bugs _ and real-life ones, too!

Alex in Wonderland 6

Previously...

In court the proof was interesting to say the least. They kept calling her "Alice". This Alice person sounded very naughty.

There appeared to be "Alice" clones wreaking havoc wracking up multiple crimes in Wonderland.

The Caterpillar claimed Alice took all his shrinking sides of the mushroom so she could gobble everybody up! But he was looking suspiciously well-fed..

And a last shocking photo made Alex exclaim "You aren't even in the right story that's Goldilocks stuffing her face with porridge!" Of course the courtroom exploded in mayhem.

Alex took the opportunity to slip out where she found the White Rabbit having tea. The trial had dragged on so long she was quite grown up now.
"Oh hello" she said pleasantly, "You are still here?"

"Of course!" Alex exclaimed, "I was in jail! On trial!"
"Oh you could have left at any time, they are nothing but a pack of cards.."
Alex turned to look back and..

...the Rabbit was right.
A hole began to form at her feet.

"I suppose you're off again then, where will you go?"
Alex smiled "I guess I'll find out when I get there!"
