Snowball the Dancing Cockatoo, Science Star!

Snowball the famous dancing Cockatoo's fame is well.. snowballing into even more worldwide recognition, as the science world flocks to study his moves.

Watch the dancing style that inspired entertainment and scientific minds alike!

The BBC reports today: "Footage revealed that some parrots have a near-perfect sense of rhythm; swaying their bodies, bobbing their heads and tapping their feet in time to a beat.

Previously, it was thought that only humans had the ability to groove."

Snowball begs to differ.

"Dr Patel said: "These 15 species were all vocal learners - 14 parrots and one Asian elephant."

After these initial studies, both teams now want to look more closely at different species' relationship with music."

Hospital Food Fun

"Hospital Food"
A weirdly inspiring blog of photos from around the world of, yes, hospital food. This will make you much more appreciative of the home cooked goodies you might get!

Isn't it bad enough you may have to spend time in a hospital? Then they feed you with things that look like they were some kind of accidental collision of squishy things...

This one is of kind of cute, like cardboard cut-outs...

This last one is from Paris. Why does this not surprise me? :)

Like creepy food? Check out this post :)

A Man his Travels, and his Beard

While documenting an incredible journey walking through China, Christoph Rehage of Hanover Germany, also realized he had grown an incredibly long beard. So what's a guy to do other than- time-lapse video! Watch the facial fur fun and then check out the long journey he took for the sole purpose of photographing his beard in far flung locales.. okay just kidding, the beard just happened.
But why not have fun with it?

Visit his website here and read about the rest of his amazing adventure.

From Georgann: My husband Bob, and I are part of a small team of rehabilitators in east Texas, that specialize in different species of wildlife. Our ranch is approximately fifty acres and is a habitat, for deer, fawn, rabbits, squirrels, armadillos, skunks, raccoons, horses and possums. Actually, the list is endless, we will add just about anything to our loving family.

Twitter Magnets

As if you need more pretty distractions.. well maybe you do! Here is a sweet one called Twitter Magnets. Create a poem in the style of refrigerator poetry magnets and a tweet:

Then submit to either your twitter or theirs and gain some tiny tweet fame.

Reading other entries is a fine way to spend a few minutes too. You can even dedicate one to Twitter friends.

After every submission a new set of random words appears or you can click for a swap of current choices. Mellow piano solo soundtrack and a non-abrasive flash page makes it perfect for rainy afternoons, or late nights when everyone is asleep.

23 Signs You are Addicted To Social Media

While listening to a pop-up music player on My Space and reading Facebook, I did indeed Tweet this because this Blogger blog posts to Twitter, and then Twitter updates Facebook. So technically I shouldn't be held responsible for that last bit.. since it happens without me. Does that mean I'm addicted? :)

Some highlights:
4 When you hear a joke in person, you say “lol” instead of actually laughing out loud. Doesn't everyone?

11 You go through withdrawals when you can’t access your favorite social media site as a result of a server down, blocked at work, or no wi-fi connection available. The symptoms are mild and don't last that long..

Book Lover, Art Critic, Kitty Cat!

The BBC reports on a feline who likes the library just fine.

Literary cat makes library visits
"A Kent library has been visited almost every day for two years by its own "puss in books", the council has said.

Fidel, an eight-year-old black cat, turns up at Deal library almost every day while his owners are at work.

He spends the day on his favourite blue chair, only leaving the building when he sees his owners arriving home."
Read his whole story here.

The Baby Squirrel and the Wall

A story of Man, Mamma and a Mighty Mite! Baby Squirrel obviously doesn't have his jumpin' legs yet, but with mom's encouragement, a wee fighting spirit and the help of onlookers, a baby just might make his way to the trees. Will he? Just watch :)

No Free Wifi for You!

We have all gone in search of that ethereal on-the-go laptop connection and felt a warm glow when one is available for free. But not everybody wants to help you get all glowy and make it perfectly clear.. some look like you wouldn't want to connect with them even if they were free! A few network names are PG-13 so proceed with caution kids.

Check out this cute video from Japan. You don't need to know the language to know what's going on. Watch and learn! Very impressive and useful to busy on-the-go guys, but I'd like to see a girl version for those who have clothing that can't be danced into, and hair that doesn't just need a shake-n-go!

An Earthly ABC! A truly amazing collaborative effort between land and man and his observant eye.

"Over the course of several months beginning October 2008 to April 2009 I've spent some of my spare time between commercial projects searching Google Maps hoping to discover land formations or buildings resembling letter forms. These are the results of my findings limited within the state of Victoria, Australia."

About as Cute as Machines can get..

Queen Bohemian Rhapsody Old School Computer Remix
I want to pinch it's rockin' cheeks if I knew what gadget would be considered a cheek..

What the composer says..
This is dedicated to all fans of Queen and hey let's not forget about Mike Myers and Dana Carvey of Wayne's World.
No effects or sampling was used. What you see is what you hear (does that even make sense?)
Atari 800XL was used for the lead piano/organ sound
Texas Instruments TI-99/4a as lead guitar
8 Inch Floppy Disk as Bass
3.5 inch Harddrive as the gong
HP ScanJet 3C was used for all vocals. Please note I had to record the HP scanner 4 seperate times for each voice. I tried to buy 4 HP scanners but for some reason sellers on E-Bay expect you to pay $80-$100, I got mine for $30.
I keep hearing parts of the song are out of tune. Keep in mind the scanner and floppy drive are not musical instruments. These are mechanical devices whose motors tend to drift and can cause some notes to be out of tune.

For any one who think this is a hoax here is a web link that gave me the idea.

Thank You for Being a Friend
